Significant upgrades to two intersections, Iodide and Crystal St and Iodide and Argent, have increased safety for all vehicles.
“Thanks to the $600,000 investment by the NSW government, the upgrades will improve safety and efficiency for all road users travelling through Broken Hill-whether this is local traffic or freight,” the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, said.
Perilya trucks use the intersection to transfer ore from the North Mine and Potosi.
“Perilya’s Northern Operations are important and this upgrade will provide safety, decrease congestion and improve traffic flow for Perilya and the community,” General Manager Broken Hill Operations Perilya, Bruce Byrne, said.
The Iodide and Argent St corner is also the significant intersections of two highways, Silver City and Barrier Highway.
Local traffic crosses this intersection, but semitrailers and B-doubles frequently use the corners.
“The problem of safety and ongoing cost of maintenance through damage from semi-trailer doubles and triples had been addressed in one (action),” Mayor Tom Kennedy said.
The new changes have widened the intersection and added heavy-duty flexible pavement to improve safety and traffic flow.
