The Silver City sees in the new year

Broken Hill New Year's Eve

The Broken Hill community came together on Sunday night with people scattered across Sturt Park to stake their claim for the best view of the stage and the family-friendly fireworks. With long lines to food and drink vendors, thrilling rides and games for all ages kept the squeals of excitement piercing through hours of live performances.

In a spectacular display of colour on New Year’s Eve, the 9:15pm Line of Lode fireworks went off without a hitch lighting up the Silver City’s sky spreading smiles for miles but also making a few frowns with birds fleeing trees and pets panicking all over town.

One lady contacted the Barrier Truth to let us know that their pet went missing during the fireworks, and the number for Broken Hill Companion Animal Shelter provided in our RSPCA tips to keep pets safe during firework displays story was closed until January 8.

So, if your pet goes missing during the next week, call Broken Hill City Council’s after-hours number on 0408 858 493.
