North’s unbeaten run, South demolish West

Across the AFL Broken Hill senior grades this past weekend it was just the Women’s competition continuing its season in a Round 5 doubleheader at Jubilee Oval which saw North Broken Hill Bulldogs extend their unbeaten start to the season, while South Broken Hill Roos produced a demolishing win.

NORTH V CENTRAL

In the first game of the day’s doubleheader, North who continued its hot start to the season with a fifth win in a row, taking care of reigning premiers Central by 16 points. Both sides were neck-and-neck across the first two quarters, with the Magpies holding a slender four-point lead going into the main break.

In the second half, North’s defence didn’t allow for many forward entries Central could capitalise on. The Bulldogs kept the Magpies scoreless in the second half, while taking the game away themselves with three goals – which would end up being the roundabout final margin – to come away victorious.

Brooklyn Gibson was the only multiple goalscorer for the match, with the North forward slotting two majors. Makayla Berg, Kadee Millar, and Ellie Simmons each kicked a goal for the Bulldogs, while April Dempster and Nikki Phillips were the Magpies’ individual goalkickers.

SOUTH V WEST

The Roos look like a team aiming to climb the ladder, recording their second win of the season with a dominant performance against the West Broken Hill Robins with the final margin 92 points. From the outset, South took care of the way the match would be played, with the ball rarely finding its way into West’s attacking half of the ground.

A consistent rate of scores each quarter allowed for South to pile on the goals and grow the margin, with 27 scoring shots to zero. Melisa Keenan was instrumental in helping her side get the result, kicking seven goals and taking her season tally to 13. Sienna Campbell and Paris Ralph kicked two goals each for the Roos, while Georgia Cusack chipped in a single.
