Outback Astronomy celebrates 10 years

Let’s face it, most locals love giving a good guided tour to family and friends when they make the enormous effort to visit our remote region, and now they can make return visits to attend an Outback Astronomy sky show without paying the price of the standard ticket.

Outback Astronomy began 10 years ago when they started introducing engaging naked eye and binocular stargazing sessions to locals and tourists from a shipping container.

“To celebrate, we’re saying Thank You to our local community,” says Outback Astronomy owner Linda Nadge.

As part of Outback Astronomy’s 10-year business anniversary celebrations, Broken Hill residents can now actively engage in local promotions of Outback Astronomy without needing to buy repeat visit tickets every time they attend. The free return visit for residents with a 2024 Season Pass is a benefit at the heart of their new loyalty program for locals.

“We wish we could have done this much sooner but it really does take 10 years to feel like celebrating your achievements, particularly when you privately fund and build a tourism business like this from scratch,” says Ms Nadge. “It is hard work but very rewarding.

“There are fabulous benefits delivered to our local community via accommodation bookings and local retail, groceries, fuel and so on. Now, we feel it is time to give back to locals who have supported us and who want to continue to support us,” Ms Nadge said.

Whenever a local resident attends a sky show during this year, they become eligible for a 2024 Season Pass, which allows them to return to another sky show with visitors without paying the price of the Outback Astronomy standard ticket. However, any additional items like food and drinks must be paid for on future visits.

Outback Astronomy will fully refund the cost of the standard ticket for any returning locals with the Season Pass when they are accompanied by visitors, in line with the program’s terms.

To obtain a 2024 Season Pass, simply book online as usual. When you attend the sky show, you’ll be presented with a season pass if you identify as local, even if you’re a temporary local such as a student or short-term worker who will be hosting visitors throughout the year.

When your visitors arrive, simply book a sky show online including your visitors. Upon arrival, they will be asked to show evidence of a non-local postcode using a driver’s licence or passport. By presenting a 2024 Season Pass when locals arrive with their visitors, Outback Astronomy will refund the cost of a standard ticket after the event.

Locals can use their season pass as often as they like during 2024, provided they are accompanied by at least one visitor from out of town. To read all the details, go to the FAQs section on Outback Astronomy’s website, at: https://outbackastronomy.com.au/faqs
