NYE set to take off in the park

Yes, we’re all only just getting over Christmas, but New Year’s Eve is looming and promises to be a big one in town, with the City Council throwing a major party at Sturt Park.

Starting at 5.30pm on Saturday, December 31, there will be dodgem cars and giant inflatables and you can purchase a $15 wristband for unlimited use on the night.

Headlining the musical part of proceedings will be country music icon and People’s Choice Award Album of The Year winner, Paul Costa.

Costa was welcomed into the Country Music Hands of Fame in 2018, and in the same year was a finalist for Male Artist of The Year at the famed CMC Music Awards.

The Country Music Hands of Fame was established in Tamworth in 1977 to honour individuals who have made a significant and ongoing contribution to Australian country music.

Costa will be supported by Caramelephant, using synth, guitar, and live beat-making gear to create a smooth mix of funk, classic R&B, and jazzy renditions of fan favourites and mashups, along with DJ David Burrowes.

There will be plenty of food and drink on offer, with a variety of vendors slated for the event, though Council reminds the public it is an alcohol-free event.

The Line of Lode will be the location for multiple fireworks displays, with the first happening at 9.15pm for the nippers, and then the midnight blast follows to ring in the New Year proper.

“New Year’s Eve celebrations are important,” Mayor Tom Kennedy told the Barrier Truth.

“I’d love to see as many people as possible get down to Sturt Park to support this event so it and other events like it can continue being successful. Positivity breeds positivity and our community is no different.”
