New residents Meet and Mingle

RDA Far West Meet and Mingle

The latest Meet and Mingle event, put on by Regional Development Australia (RDA) Far West, has proved a resounding success with new residents meeting existing residents, plus representatives from sporting, art, and community organisations.

More than 100 people attended the evening, with 60 new residents and some 18 local organisations setting up stalls to inform attendees about their groups.

“It has long been known that supporting new residents to integrate into the community enhances their experience and helps retain new residents longer, “said Michael Williams, CEO of RDA Far West.

“So ensuring new residents can meet locals and better understand the opportunities available to them in a welcoming and friendly setting is critical to ensuring they can settle into the community and feel like they are home as soon as possible.”

“As our community grows, we need to ensure we are also attracting and retaining professionals who support our community’s needs across health, education, policing, fire and emergency, and communities and justice,” said RDA Far West local connector Brooke Files.

“The event was another fantastic opportunity for our new residents to meet local people and representatives from sporting and community groups,” she added.

“We’ve had fantastic feedback from both community groups and new residents, and look forward to growing the event and ensuring it meets the needs of both new residents and local groups,” Ms Files said.

One of the local groups at the event was Broken Hill All Breeds Obedience Dog Club, represented by Publicity Officer and Treasurer Janet Siddall, and Secretary Tanya Martyn.

“I thought the function was well organised,” Mrs Siddall said.

“The groups represented all felt it was worthwhile. I am glad we attended as it gave a point of contact for people moving here with dogs and those hoping to be able to get a dog once they have been here for a while.”

Community organisations and local groups who are interested in attending the next event are encouraged to contact Brooke Files on 8087 8383.
