Following the Broken Hill All Breeds Obedience Dog Club’s anniversary trials last month, several local members and their dogs travelled to Mildura to compete in the area’s Obedience and Rally Obedience Trials on the weekend of October 7.
Victorian Judge Heather Miller adjudged the trials and held a masterclass on Saturday afternoon to guide competitors on how to improve their chances in Sunday’s events.
Megan Algate and her dog Drax achieved second place in Rally Masters, a first and a second place in Rally Advanced, and two first places in Rally Excellent. Drax also earned the highest score in Sunday’s Rally Obedience Trial.
Mrs Algate confirmed to The Truth that Drax did not compete in the Obedience sections on either day, stating, “we were having a relaxing weekend.”
Laura Pinnuck also had a successful weekend with her Stafford’s, Luna and Apollo. In the Rally Obedience discipline on Sunday, Luna received a pass in Rally Masters and claimed first place in the category.
Furthermore, Luna earned a pass in Community Companion Dog (CCD) on Sunday with a first place, becoming the “highest-scoring obedience dog in trial.” Consequently, Luna has achieved her CCD Title, pending certification from Dogs NSW.
Similarly, Apollo received a pass in CCD and placed second on Sunday, trailing Luna by two points. This marks Apollo’s third CCD pass, and he has also earned his CCD Title, pending Dogs NSW certification.
Ms Pinnuck told The Truth that she was “really proud of how they worked on Sunday morning and wish I had got someone to film (them in the ring).”
Both Ms Pinnuck and Mrs Algate expressed interest in participating in a Dancing with Dogs Trial and a Tricks Trial in Two Wells in November, provided all goes well.
The local obedience club will continue its training classes, which range from beginner to trialling levels, at AJ Keast Park on Gypsum Street. Registration takes place at 6 pm on Sundays. Further details can be found on the club’s Facebook group, “Broken Hill All Breeds Obedience Dog Club.”
