Maari Ma staff at Wilcannia’s Primary Health Care Service at Wilcannia Hospital in Ross St are preparing to move to a new Health and Wellbeing Centre in Bonney St this month.

While the new facility was largely completed in November, there were a few final clearances to be achieved before an occupation certificate could be issued, which Maari Ma Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Weston says was issued just before Christmas.

“We have needed to wait until staff returned from leave before making the move which I am now very pleased to say will be occurring at the end of next week,” said Mr Weston.

“To enable this, we will be closed at our current Wilcannia location in the hospital on Friday January 19 to allow a three-day transition into the new building. With all plans going as expected, we will be open for services from the new Health and Wellbeing Centre on Monday January 22.

“Services provided at the Wilcannia Health and Wellbeing Centre will be the same as those provided at the previous health service,” Mr Weston said. “But dental services for children will continue to be provided from the old hospital.”

Wilcannia Health and Wellbeing Centre will continue to provide:

  • GP services.
  • chronic disease management.
  • child and family health including antenatal and immunisation.
  • visiting services: mental health / social and emotional wellbeing/ Healing program, dietician.
  • visiting medical specialists: paediatrician, endocrinologist, cardiologist, nephrologist, optometrist, ophthalmologist, psychiatrist, GP/obstetrician.
