Four more wins for local gins

Broken Hill brothers Paul and Eric Hanna have been raking in awards for their gin over the last three years since starting the Broken Hill Distillery, and there seems to be no stopping the winning streak so long as locals continue to deliver honest feedback about their latest brew.

Broken Hill Distillery recently received four shiny medals in the mail for their four entries in the 10th Annual Melbourne International Spirits Competition held back in June. And the winning brews were:

Gold

Rosemary, Rivermint & Wattle seed Gin scored 95

Silver

Outback Strength Gin scored 93

Bronze

Far West Gin scored 91

Spirit of the Outback – Redgum Honey & Quandong Gin scored 91

Paul Hanna attributes their long list of wins to the honesty of Broken Hill locals, saying that “everything that’s left this distillery has been tried by Broken Hill”.

“When a new flavour comes up, we run it through the bar to get feedback from the locals, and if they don’t like it, it doesn’t get a shoe in. In fact, we’ve got a new brew with a few surprise flavours on trial now,” he said.

“The good thing about Broken Hill locals is that they’re honest and they don’t care about your feelings, so they just tell you the god honest truth and that’s what we all love.

“They really got behind us from day one because people said their grandparents had held weddings and parties in the building over the years and it was always full of love, so when it got shut down we wanted to open it back up to get some love going back through it.

“Broken Hill has just been right behind us from day one and we really appreciate each and every one of them, but this distillery is Broken Hill’s as much as it is ours – we couldn’t have done it without them.”

You can pick up a bottle of award-winning gin at the distillery at 400 Thomas St next to Tydvil Hotel & Bistro or buy online at brokenhilldistillery.com.au.
