Flood warning issued by NSW SES

Flash Flooding in Broken Hill, 2022

With heavy rainfall and strong winds forecast for the Easter long weekend for Far West NSW – particularly Broken Hill, Packsaddle, and Tibooburra – NSW SES is urging the community to remain vigilant amid possible flash flooding and road closures.

“Flash flooding may cause road closures, and we’re asking the public to understand their risks and make the safe decision for themselves and their family,” NSW SES Assistant Commissioner, Nicole Hogan ESM, said.

“People planning on camping in Western NSW this weekend should consider where they’re establishing camp sites, monitor the conditions around them and monitor warnings and advice from emergency services.

“It’s also important to prepare your home and outdoor items when a severe weather or storm warnings are issued. You can do this by tying down outdoor furniture and trampolines, picking up loose items and parking your car undercover away from trees.”

Assistant Commissioner Hogan also encouraged people travelling to be across the latest safety information and warnings by downloading the Hazards Near Me App.

For help in floods and storms, call NSW SES on 132 500. In life threatening situations, call 000 immediately.
