Double demerits come into force at midnight on Wednesday and continue over the weekend.
The period officially starts on Wednesday, January 25 at 12:01am and continues through to Sunday, January 29 at 11:59pm.
Fines remain the same for an offence during the DD period though any points will be doubled and remaining active on a driver record for three-years.
If a demerit point limit is reached (which is different for each license type), the license can be suspended.
Additional police will be deployed across the state, including both regional and metro areas, over the traditionally busy period.
