Dealing With Grief Over Christmas

The Christmas period is an emotional one for many people, and not all of those emotions are always positive.

Something that Palliative Care Australia (PCA) is all too aware of.

PCA is the national body for palliative care. It represents all persons that are involved with or are a part of the palliative care sector.

Family, friendships, and a sense of joy are at the centre of expectations around Christmas and the festive season, but if people near and dear are gone, then feelings of sadness or loneliness can naturally surface.

Grief management can be tricky to handle during the festive period. Grief doesn’t run to a timeline, it’s different for everyone and can be more deeply felt and seen at this time of year, whether the person died two days ago or two decades ago.

“Managing grief during this period can be challenging; but planning in the lead-up to significant events and anniversaries can give you a greater sense of control and may help ease some of the anxiety and concern you may feel,” says a Palliative Care Australia spokesperson.

PCA has put together a simple guide that can help with managing grief. You can find it at the address below.
