Civic Orchestra tunes up for 2023

The Broken Hill Civic Orchestra begins this year’s rehearsals from Tuesday at the BIU Band Hall on Beryl St, and is always on the lookout for new instrumentalists.

Founded in 1975, the Orchestra plays a variety of music including classical and popular tunes, and hs string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. Having weathered the pandemic, it’s all about enjoyment for the Broken Hill Civic Orchestra as it begins its plans for this year.

The group will be performing concerts at venues including the Regional Art Gallery and the Wesley Church, and offering workshops with performers and conductors to help instrumentalists fine-tune and further their skills.

President and Conductor of the Broken Hill Civic Orchestra, Mark Curtis, is, “looking forward to picking up the baton and making music again with a group of people that enjoy making music”.

“The orchestra exists really, just for people who enjoy playing music together and who want to continue the tradition of orchestral music. It’s about enjoyment, we don’t audition, so really, if anyone wants to play an orchestral instrument and join us, they’re very welcome,” he told us.

The Broken Hill Civic Orchestra meets every Tuesday night from 7.30pm at the BIU Band Hall on Beryl St.
