Central Fall to Defeat Despite Jory Heroics

West 10/152 defeated Central 8/131

West Cricket Club reigned supreme in A-Grade action at the Alma Oval this last weekend.

The reigning premier Mighty Robins were sent into bat by Central on Saturday morning. Three early wickets soon had West at 3/43. Central had their tails up and the decision to send West into bat turned out to be a good idea.

Out strode Max Everuss, who would turn the Mighty Robins innings on its head as he provided the backbone of their innings. His 59 was crucial to West posting a respectable target and he held his wicket right to the very end, forming valuable partnerships with Padrick Attard and opener Adam Perry along the way.

Central spread the wickets evenly, with four bowlers picking up two wickets. Frontline bowler Adam Jory was amongst that group as he picked up two wickets in part of a Man of the Match display, despite his side ultimately losing.

The other part of Jory’s display was a swashbuckling 63 not out in Central’s batting innings. The knock provided the backbone for Central’s run chase, which ended up falling 21 runs short.

Although it was a great day personally for Jory, he had mixed feelings when he spoke to us about the match.

“It’s nice to spend a bit of time in the middle personally, but it is always a bit of a dampener when the team doesn’t get the result.

“We are hoping to string a few wins together before the Christmas break,” he said.

This weekend will sees Central take on South and with neither team yet to taste victory this season, both sides will be eager to get on the winner’s list.

“You’ve always got to be confident heading into a game, almost expecting to come away with the win, regardless of the opposition,” Jory said of the coming weekend’s match against South.

“We are under no illusions that we need to get a few wins on the board, so it’ll be nice to kick things off this week.”

Head to the Alma Oval this Saturday at 11.30am to see whether South or Central can pick up their first win of the season in BDCL A-Grade competition.
