Car rally makes tracks to the Silver City

The Perth to Sydney car rally made a pitstop in Broken Hill on Wednesday, gracing our streets with some true art on wheels.

The 2022 Perth to Sydney marathon began in Perth on October 27 and will end in Sydney on November 6.

Travelling some 5700kms over 10 days, the rally will, where possible, recreate the original route from Perth to Sydney taken in the 1968 London to Sydney rally.

More than 70 cars entered this year and there were some real beauties among them.

We went down to the corner of Argent and Silver Sts, to The Junction Hotel to chat to some of the drivers about the cars, their experiences, and their stories.

Without question, the dirt driving was much more popular with the competitors than the bitumen. As one of the drivers told us, “we aren’t in this to cruise down the highways.”

After a brief stop in Broken Hill, the drivers had an early breakfast at the Junction Hotel before heading off on the next leg which ends at Wangaratta.

The cars are scheduled to reach their destination, Sydney, this coming Sunday.
