Car for Christmas raffle draw Saturday

Would you like to win a brand-new Hyundai this Christmas?

Broken Hill Lions Club, Vinnies, and Far West Auto get together each year to consider how they can help to create a very special Christmas for the Silver City community and this year they’ve got a sleek new car to give away in their Car for Christmas raffle being drawn on Saturday.

Chairman of the Lions Club Cake Committee Pat Evers and vice-chairman Ross Wecker were joined by Far West Auto sales representative Sam Sutcliffe yesterday (Tuesday December 12) and Broken Hill Regional President of St Vincents de Paul (Vinnies) Helen Woodman to chat with the Barrier Truth about this year’s fundraising efforts that are about to lead to one lucky person winning a brand-new Hyundai.

In a 30-year collaboration, Lions and Far West Auto continue to demonstrate care for the community by donating to Vinnies.

“Broken Hill Lions, along with Far West Auto, are pleased to be able to donate 48 Christmas cakes to St Vinnies. This annual donation has been a partnership with the dealership for over 30 years and the donation is made possible by the sale of Lions cakes and tickets in our Car for Christmas raffle, so if you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, time is running out as it’s being drawn this Saturday at Westside Plaza,” says Mr Evers.

“Lions would like to thank the community for their ongoing support of our fundraising and thank our sales outlets around town – Happy Christmas.”

Far West Auto Dealer Principal Mark Grundy kept the long running annual Christmas collaboration going when he and his wife Karen took over the dealership from John Williams in 2005.

“It’s great that the Lions Club come to see us every year to help organise a vehicle for the Car for Christmas raffle,” Mr Sutcliffe told us. “We’ve been giving away a raffle ticket with each service for several months and we’ve had a few customers win the car in the raffle over the years.

“Lots of people are doing it tough so winning a car would be a big deal. We’re looking forward to picking it up on Saturday to give it a wash before handing it over to the new owner,” he said.

“Mark gives anyone who buys a car or books a service at Far West Auto a raffle ticket so he’s a great supporter of Lions and Vinnies,” said Mr Evers. “The Broken Hill community needs to look after itself because it’s out in the bush and if we don’t look after ourselves, no one else will.

“People are commenting about the nice sleek shape of this year’s Hyundai, so we’re keen to see who the lucky winner is this weekend!”

Ms Woodman says that Vinnies is extremely grateful for the help they continue to receive from the Lions Club and Far West Auto.

“We’ll be handing out various sized Christmas hampers on Wednesday (December 20) from the Vinnies distribution centre at 97/99 Argent St.

“We’ll be very busy here next Wednesday when we start handing out Christmas hampers including groceries to people and families in need. We’re very short on volunteers so we’re asking people to come along to help us out – it would be wonderful to have some young people volunteer so we’re always looking for new faces to join us at Vinnies,” said Ms Woodman.

Get your Lions Club Car for Christmas raffle tickets before the draw at Westside Plaza at 5 Galena St this Saturday December 16 at 2pm.
