Truck on fire this morning

Broken Hill firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW were quickly on scene this morning around 9.40am after a truck caught fire at the corner of Iodide St and Schlapp St.

Broken Hill NSW Fire and Rescue Station Manager, Dean Scifleet, praised the employees of a nearby mechanics workshop who sprang into action and attempted to get the blaze under control with fire extinguishers.

“When we arrived on scene, the vehicle was on fire, but there were several members of a local mechanical workshop with portable fire extinguishers, dry chemical extinguishers, attempting to put the fire out. They did an outstanding job of trying to put out the fire,” SM Scifleet told us.

“We really can’t thank the guys from that workshop enough. They did outstanding work in that first attack firefighting and our crews just had to put out the balance of the fire and then do the overhaul.”

The cabin of the truck was damaged severely but thankfully no one was injured.

“The driver noticed the smoke almost immediately and got out of the vehicle very quickly and called 000, so no one was hurt,” said SM Scifleet.
