KO Cup Final Preview

A huge week for Broken Hill Soccer Association (BHSA), as the KO Cup finals kick off tonight – Wednesday – at O’Neill Memorial Park.

In the A-Grade, St Joes takes on this season’s surprise packet, Celtic who booked their spot by defeating West Panthers a fortnight ago, 3-2. The other semi final saw Alma defeat St Joes 2-1 after extra time.

Previous clashes between the two sides this season have resulted in St Joes’ victories, so Celtic will need to break that curse to lift the first piece of A-Grade silverware on offer this season.

“Last week, the boys were up and about for the fight, and we are looking forward to bringing that same intensity and passion for the club Wednesday night when we have a crack at winning the KO Cup final,” said St Joes leadership group member, Pat Nash.

Anticipation is high in Celtic’s camp too, it will be the first time the green and white have contested a KO Cup final in four years.

“We are coming in on a high, as you can imagine, because it has been so long. The boys can’t wait,” Celtic coach Aaron Cunico told the Truth.

The B-Grade final will see the all-conquering West B team take on Alma. George Bugeja’s side is dominating the B-Grade league competition and continued that dominance with a huge 9-0 victory over Celtic in the semi finals of this competition. Alma booked their spot by comfortably taking care of an undermanned St Joes B-Grade side last Wednesday.

“We should have a pretty full-strength side, and we are looking forward to one hell of a match against Alma,” West coach George Bugeja told us.

The Women’s final pits St Joes against West Panthers. St Joes qualified for the women’s final by virtue of a shock result when they defeated Codey Ralph’s talented Alma side 4-0 in the first week of KO Cup action.

On the other side of the KO Cup bracket, West essentially had a bye round into the final after Celtic failed to field a side in last week’s round of KO Cup match ups.

All the action kicks off from 6.30pm at O’Neill Memorial Park tonight from 6.30pm with the B-Grade final first. The women’s final follows, starting at 6.45pm, with the centrepiece A-Grade final from 8.30pm.
