Seniors Variety Concert a hit

The 2023 Broken Hill Seniors Annual Variety Concert was held at the Civic Centre on Thursday, with some 200 residents of the town’s aged care homes enjoying an afternoon of singing, dancing, and show-stopping performances by some of Broken Hill’s best talent.

The event featured a tribute to famous Broken Hill icon, June Bronhill, before a collection of musicians brought their talents to the stage, including 15-year-old vocalist Molly Molloy, and 11-year-old dancer Zahra Cawley.

Broken Hill-born actor Corey Page was also on stage and leant his voice to a Johnny Cash tribute, with the full look and all.

Co-ordinator and compere, June Marie Bennett – who’s been involved with the event for 40 years – said it was, “a wonderful, positive, happy response”, attended by a “terrific audience [with] much laughter”.

“For people to come to front of stage at the end and shake my hand, it showed their appreciation. They certainly left with a song in their heart. Thank you to each performer. What a diverse talent that suited all tastes,” she told the Truth.

“Gratitude to Broken Hill City Council Events for continuing to be the sponsors, Silver City Charities’ free gifts, stage manager John Bennett with Bruce Bowden, and my wonderful helper, Vicki Armstrong.”
