Sneak peek at hospital’s new Emergency Dept design

New designs showcasing the expanded Emergency Department (ED) and new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIPU) for Broken Hill Health Service have been released

The latest unveil shows the proposed floorplan, as well as an artist’s impression of the new dedicated external entry into the ED, which is being reconfigured in its current location to better meet the needs of the region.

The current Emergency Department is set for a full internal refurbishment and will be expanded into the existing ambulance bay to create a bigger and more efficient space.

The Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit, is set to be built at Broken Hill Base Hospital on Thomas St, with a view to providing a modern space for people with mental health needs, their families, carers, and staff.

Minister for Mental Health Rose Jackson said, “Extensive consultation, including with patients and carers with a lived experience, has been vital in ensuring the new mental health facility meets the needs of the community,” Ms Jackson said.

The upgrades are part of the Broken Hill Health Service Redevelopment, with construction set to begin in 2024.
