Tonky’s Tips: Round 8

South vs West

We head to the Alma first up where South take on West.  That travel over the hill can do funny things to teams, but West have been pretty good this year and I anticipate they will take it up to South.

South are doing a lot of things right and just keep getting stronger and West will need to be at the top of their game to restrict them.

Cody Schorn is a luxury they have – he’s kicked 6, 7, 8, and 7 in the past four weeks and is pretty hard to contain.  Todd Davidson continues to get his hands on ball up forward and Arlen Bird, who I’ve have mentioned on previous occasions, holds it all together as they play their V through Arlen who sets up the inside 50m attack. But having said all that, I’m a firm believer you have to restrict South at the source and limit their supply, which takes concentration, communication and relentless pressure.

West can do this but can they do it for long enough? I’m not so sure they can. But I’m sure of one thing, South don’t make it easy for any team and I think they will run out winners in the end. South by four goals is my prediction

North vs Central

The Central Magpies will play the Dogs today at Jubilee Oval and last week I thought they were a good thing against West but West proved me wrong and piled on the goals against the Pies.

I have been bullish all year about the way the Magpies play. I like their game style, from defence through to offence, but the Dogs will bring the heat today. They have a very good mix of talented footballers and Mark Pitt has them ready to go and prove what a force they can be heading into the second half of the year.

My prediction is Central will keep with the Dogs early and the North just may run over the top of the Magpies. I’m going the Dogs by four goals as well.

Enjoy the footy everyone.
