The Music of Movement on this Sunday

Broken Hill Civic Orchestra presents its first concert for the year, The Music of Movement, with special guest artists at 2.30pm this Sunday at the City Art Gallery at 404 Argent St with entry by donation.

With a selection of dances ranging from the 1600s through to the 1980s, this will be the debut concert for several new members who joined at the beginning of the year.

When asked how members of the orchestra are feeling about the upcoming inaugural performance, conductor Mark Curtis told us, “we’re nervously excited about the performance. To the old hands it’s a good moment to get out and play again, but our new members are feeling a little nervous. After three years it’s good to get back to normal. All going to plan we’ll get back to playing three concerts a year rather than three concerts in three years.”

Due to the small population of Broken Hill, the beginners play together with advanced performers.

“It’s a come one, come all situation,” said Mr Curtis. “There’ll be a few nerves, but everyone is also excited about performing at the City Art Gallery because it’s a tremendous space for both visual and performance art so we’re really looking forward to the day.”

New members are always welcome to attend rehearsals on 7.30pm each Tuesday at the BIU Band Hall in Beryl Street – O’Neil Park.
