Council celebrates Broken Hill’s volunteers

Broken Hill City Council (BHCC) celebrated volunteers Tuesday night, paying tribute to individuals and groups who volunteer their time and personal resources to serve our city.

Following a three-course meal, Master of Ceremonies Councillor Darriea Turley read out individual and group award recipients across 10 categories.

And the winners are:

Community: Christine Adams and Peter Keenan

Cultural: Broken Hill Art Gallery Volunteers

Environment: Friends of the Flora and Fauna of the Barrier Ranges

Event: Lifeline Country to Coast

Health & Social Services: Tracy Gauci and Palliative Care, Dementia and Delirium Volunteers

Sporting: Broken Hill Little Athletics and GWS Giants Academy

Tourism: Jeff Crase and Broken Hill Heritage Walk Tours

Youth: 3rd Broken Hill Sea Scouts

People’s Choice: Carrie Oakley and Allan Pearce

Nydia Edes Hall of Fame: Christine Adams and Peter Keenan

The Award Selection Panel considered the impact and benefit individual award recipients made on our community as well as demonstrated integrity and professionalism by the volunteer.

Groups were selected based on the impact, benefit, and effectiveness of their program, project, or partnership to the community, as well as the impact and benefit for the volunteers, and the extent the group has maintained participation in its activities.

The Nydia Edes Hall of Fame was presented to dual recipients, Christine Adams and Peter Keenan, for their significant contribution across all categories. Their achievements are to be recorded on the Nydia Edes Hall of Fame Honour Board at the Civic Centre and BHCC’s website.
