Barrier Cricket Round Two Preview

The weather gods have not been kind to the Barrier District Cricket League [BDCL], with major downpours putting a stop to A-Grade fixtures last weekend, and if the weather forecast is anything to go by – it might be the same story for round two of BDCL action.

Regardless, we will press ahead with our preview for round two action across all grades of the BDCL this weekend and keep our fingers crossed for some decent weather.

This week’s A Grade fixtures see Central and North facing each other in the Saturday match, while West take on South in the Sunday fixture, with both taking place at Alma Oval.

As we touched on in our season preview, South are a little up against it, and their performance in the B-Grade last weekend won’t instil any confidence in their ability to defeat reigning champs, West.

In the women’s competition, North will look to keep their winning start going when they face Central at the Zinc Oval at 10.30am Sunday.

Meanwhile, West and South will be at the Norm Fox Oval. West will be desperate to get back on the winners list after being comfortably defeated by North in the opening round competition.

“Hopefully we can bounce back,” says West’s Paige Cuy. “We had a few players out last weekend, but you can only play with the team you put forward. So yeah, hoping we can bounce back this weekend.”

In B-Grade action, South will face Warriors on Saturday at Norm Fox in limited overs competition. Warriors will be itching to start the season off well, having been handed a first-round bye last weekend.

“I think we should be pretty strong this season. We normally are,” Warriors captain Rhys Pavlich told us. “We don’t want to be choking in the finals like we have in the past.

“We are a reasonably confident sort of a side that believes we can beat most sides we come up against,” Rhys said.

North and Central will clash at the Zinc Oval at 12.30pm on Saturday with North looking to maintain their winning start to the season. West have the bye in B-Grade this weekend.

Whether it is on the turf at the Alma Oval or the synthetic pitch at the Zinc, or the Norm Fox, there will be plenty of cricket – weather permitting – to catch this weekend.
