Living well with arthritis – free rural health program

Arthritis NSW (ANSW) Health Educator, Mary Zagotsis, is on her way to the Silver City next month to deliver an educational seminar alongside Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) Community Dietitian, Megan Johnstone, and Exercise Physiologist, James Wells.

Having delivered regional, rural, and remote community education seminars across NSW for the past five years, Ms Zagotsis is looking forward to holding the seminar in Broken Hill as part of the ANSW state tour.

“Arthritis NSW always seeks local collaboration in the delivery of community-based seminars and the central health messages focus on self-management and providing good evidence-based recommendations for people living with arthritis in rural and regional communities,” says Ms Zagotsis.

“We understand that the Far West of NSW and the surrounding regions experience a moderate to high volume of arthritis within the community. In Broken Hill, we identified the prevalence of arthritis affects approximately 14.2% of the population, with a higher prevalence in women in older age,” she said.

“It is our mission to provide the tools to self-manage arthritis in the community through exercise, nutrition, and knowledge, and so we are confident that our self-management education will positively impact the community and empower people living with arthritis so they can maintain their way of life,” said Ms Zagotsis.

The event will be held at the Civic Centre at 31 Chloride St with registration from 9:30am and the presentation ending at 12:30pm on Tuesday August 15 with refreshments provided.

Although a gold coin donation to support the Rural Health Program is appreciated, this is a free event open to anyone, particularly people living with arthritis, family members, partners, and friends.
