Broken Hill South Australia

Welcome to Saturday, April 1 – and yes that means it’s April fools Day, which brings me to our exclusive front page story about Broken Hill at last being absorbed into South Australia, where quite a few locals feel it belongs.

Well, the news is – the real news – that story is, of course, an April Fools prank.

So apologies for all of you who cracked a bottle or leapt in the air – South Australia is not calling, at least not yet….

Our journalist Stuart Kavanagh wrote the story and true or not, we think he did a good job and we hope you got a laugh out of it.

Now what else do we have in this issue – quite a lot, as it happens.

NSW’s new Labor Premier, Chris Minns, was in Menindee to see the fish kill situation and clean-up for himself. We were there to ask him some questions and we’ve got a story on page 4.

One of the Hill’s best known musicians is officially retiring this Sunday after 75 years playing in bands, mostly for the renowned Barrier Industrial Union Band.  Ross Mawby has certainly played a few notes in his time and Dylan Stone caught up with him to get the story.

Our regular Streaming Guide – Ryan O’Callaghan’s weekly walk through the best shows and movies on streaming services – is here once again on page 13 and is a must read if you are into entertainment.

And a big sports section in this issue as we’re close to both the AFL and soccer seasons starting up, and we’ve also got a preview of the last harness racing meet of this season, plus tennis, and results from across Broken Hill’s sporting clubs.

There is more, but we’ll let you turn the pages and find it.

Remember too that you can find local news as it happens on our website https://barriertruth.com.au/ and our Facebook page.
