For the love of film

Broken Hill Talent Agency founder/Director Christine Reddington.

Broken Hill’s Christine Reddington says the film industry is “in her blood.”

“When I left in 1980 to study film in Sydney, I knew I would come back to Broken Hill to start something,” she said. “It’s like living my dream.”

Ms Reddington is the founder and Director of Broken Hill Talent Agency which was established in late 2020.

Since then, she has enjoyed unearthing local talent and promoting them to the big screen.

“There’s a space for it here and I wanted to use my talent, experience and knowledge,” Ms Reddington.

“My experience has been very successful then COVID hit and things are starting to pick up again.”

Her work involves liaising with the production company’s casting department to find the right fit for advertised roles.

Despite being a ‘round the clock’ job, she loves every moment nurturing talent and is thrilled when locals get chosen for postilions in TV or film.

“I need to be on the ball all the time – it’s not a nine to five job. It’s very demanding work in mind and time,” Ms Reddington said.

“It’s rewarding to know that the agency has people from Broken Hill in films.

“I feel really proud and it’s an awesome feeling.”

Broken Hill Talent Agency currently has a call out for a spot to feature in a blockbuster movie being filmed locally this year.

The agency is searching for a male with white-grey hair, a slim physique and 188cm (6ft) tall.

Ms Reddington said she sources talent through social media and does in-person scouting.

“I will approach people and ask them if they are interested,” she said.

“If any locals know someone that fits the description, give me a call.

“Anyone who would like to progress their acting career can also contact me.”

The talent agent is hopeful of more projects throughout the year and said 2022 has already shown “promising” signs aided by her connections in the industry.

“During COVID, it went slow but the film industry is starting to pick up,” Ms Reddington said.

“I am fortunate that I’ve networked in the industry in the last forty years.

“I would like to get people into acting classes one day.’
