$250 Travel Card for regional apprentices

University students, apprentices and trainees across regional New South Wales are set to be eligible for a $250 Regional Apprentice and University Student Travel Card.

The program is set to run initially as a two-year trial.

Applications will open immediately, with the state government saying they want to ease cost pressures for apprentices, and trainees in the bush.

Around 51,000 regional apprentices and trainees, aged between 16 and 66, can start taking up this offer right now by applying through Service NSW and so save $250 on fuel, taxis, and public transport to help with the cost of travelling to work or to study.

Luke Prentice, who took part in a trial roll out of the card in Dubbo last month said he had already seen the benefits of the initiative.

“As part of the Dubbo trial I received my card in January which was perfect timing for me and my young family as the extra $250 help coming soon after Christmas was much appreciated,” Mr Prentice said.

University students will be able to apply in April once enrolments are confirmed. Apprentices and trainees will have until November of this year to apply for the card.
