If you enjoy horses and horsepower, you won’t want to miss the Yunta Race Club Gymkhana and Motokhana, with motorbike events to follow the morning horseback gymkhana.
A two-hour drive into SA from Broken Hill will get you to this adrenaline pumping outback spectacular, which kicks off with a barbeque Friday night for campers before officially opening on Saturday April 29 from 8.30am.
Motorcyclists will vie for bragging rights in the Bending Race, Barrel Race, Bang & Go Back, Musical Cans, Quarter Mile Sprints, and a Mono Competition.
Horse events include Musical Mats, Bending Race, Flag & Barrel, Texas Barrel, Thread the Needle, Necktie Race, Four Horse Relay, and the Gymkhana Sprint.
With $10,000 in prize money, ribbons, and trophies up for grabs, why not check out the program and head west to either have a crack yourself, or to watch gutsy participants demonstrate extreme skill, thrills, and hopefully no spills.
Free camping is available, and the new clubhouse boasts great bathroom facilities for punters. Food and beverages can be purchased, including alcohol from the bar, so BYO alcohol is not permitted.
This event also includes the inaugural Fashions on the Paddock, as well as kids races and rice activities, sheep racing, displays and market stalls, and an after party featuring Broken Hill band, Firebucket.
With EFTPOS on site, the admission fee is $10, aged pensioners $5, while kids aged under 13 enter for free – no nomination fees apply – so it’s an affordable, jam-packed event for the whole family, but please leave your furry child at home as dogs are not permitted on site.
