Broken Hill 8-Ball

Round seven of the Broken Hill 8-Ball Summer League was played last Thursday at the Rising Sun Hotel.

An 8-8 draw was recorded between the Jokers and the Pool Warriors, with Alex Graham and Jessie Sumalinog named as best players, while the Hotballs defeated the Demons 9-7, with Glenn Williams and Adrian Winter named as best players.

Another close night was witnessed with the Breakaways defeat of the Nic Nacs 9-7, with Rachel Mason and Malakai Durbidge named as best players. Jessie Sumalinog, however, was named as overall best player of the week.

As of Thursday, the Demons are top of the ladder 24-68, with the Jokers following closely 23-66, and the Pool Warriors 20-59. The Hotballs trail in fourth place 16-52, followed by the Breakaways who move to fifth spot 10-39, and the Nic Nacs last 9-45.

At the Silver City Workingmen’s Club, a members-only scotch doubles 8-Ball competition was held on Thursday for cash prizes.

In the first round, Nanny and Sol defeated Sarah and Eric 3-0, while closer games were recorded in Thomas and Luke’s defeat of Ronny and Kim 3-1, and Jase and Danny’s defeat of Damo and Craig 3-1. Shaun and Dylan scored a bye to bypass the first round.

Nevertheless, the bye was not enough to save Shaun and Dylan, who lost to Nanny and Sol 3-1. A closer game was recorded in Jase and Danny’s defeat of Thomas and Luke 3-2.

In an entertaining grand final, Jase and Danny defeated Nanny and Sol 2-0 to secure the title.

On Saturday, the Broken Hill 8-Ball Association held a 16-player Double Elimination 8-Ball knockout.

Secretary of the Association, Alex Graham, thanked the players who made the event worthwhile.

“The last three matches were Adrian Winter versus Ryan Bennett on the winners side, with Winnie winning 4-0, and Shaun Durbidge beating Glenn Williams 3-2 on the losers side,” Mr Graham said.

“Shaun beat Ryan 3-2 to get to the final against Winnie, but Winnie proved way too strong today winning the final against Shaun 4-0. Winnie also beat Shaun earlier in the day to score the $50 bounty,” Mr Graham noted.

He went on to congratulate Winnie on winning the Double Elimination 8-Ball Knockout, without losing a single match, and recognised the efforts of Shaun who came second, and Ryan who came third.

An 8-Ball knockout competition was also held on Sunday afternoon at the Workies Club for club voucher prizes.

In the elimination round, Kim, Dylan, Jase, Shaun, and Nick made it through to the first round. From there, Kim, Dylan, Jase, Craig, Shaun, Leon, Nick, and Dee won their first round games.

In the second round, Kim defeated Dylan 2-0, with the same score reflected in Craig’s defeat of Jase. Closer games were recorded in Shaun’s defeat of Leon 2-1, and Nick’s defeat of Dee 2-1.

In the semi-finals, Craig defeated Kim 2-0, and a closer match was recorded in Nick’s defeat of Shaun 2-1. Ultimately, it was Craig who took out the championship 3-0 against Nick.

The Workies Club knockouts are free to attend for members, and more information can be found by calling the Club on 08 8087 5337.
