Dale Tonkin’s expert preview of the local AFL matches on this weekend.
North vs West
First up we have North versus West at Jubilee Oval and it’s West Old Timers Weekend so they’ll be looking to put the best foot forward while North will be trying to back up after last weekend’s big win against Central.
In their last match against South, West kicked eight goals in the last quarter and will be looking to keep that momentum going. I reckon this is definitely the match of the round.
With both sides sitting on three and two, whoever can stay in the contest longer and the team that remains composed the most likely get the chocolates.
I believe it’s basically going to be a game of West speed and run against North’s physical pressure and simply wanting to win. Both sides are capable of high skill level on the day.
Which team will put the most pressure on? I’m thinking maybe West will get the upper hand in this contest. But beware of the Dog! I’m going West by two goals in a match I believe will be a tight one.
South vs Central
South versus Central at Alma Oval means Central will have to travel over the hill, which is no easy feat.
South will be looking to cement their position at the top of the ladder, while Central will be looking for their first win of the season. I’m really not sure with Central whether the issue is fitness or concentration. They play a pretty good brand of football but it’s only in a half. They need to maintain their efforts for four full quarters then they will start seeing results.
South will shut Central out today and come home strongly with a win as it’s extremely difficult to get on top of South at home, or anywhere really…
Coach Craig Thomas has South structured up pretty well (positionally wise) and like I have said in the past, it only takes certain personnel out from any side and you become vulnerable.
But South won’t drop their guard today and I feel they should, and will, come out comfortable winners.
I’m going South by eight goals, but maybe more if Central do not play four quarters.
Enjoy the footy everyone.
