Tonky’s Tips – Round 11

South vs West

We head to the Alma first up where the Roos take on the Robins in what should be the game of the round.

South are a darn good side, however I do not subscribe to the theory that they are unbeatable. I saw some little chinks in their game last week which suggests to me they are human and they are gettable.

Having said that they will more than likely win this year’s Premiership.

West, on the other hand, are coming and they now have the momentum they have been looking for. I dare say they will have a real crack at South today.

But South have an in-built excellent structure and Craig Thomas does not stray away from this and enforces they all adhere to it.

North got the jump on South last week but a perfect example of the above was Thommo gathering them in at quarter time and reinforcing their brand, and it worked. They went back to playing their brand, which holds up under pressure. West will need to combat this by running in numbers and putting immense pressure on, which they are capable of.

West will have to be the hunter as South are the front runners and they do welcome a challenge. Having said all that, West will try to take it up to South today, but for me South remain strong and the speed on the ball is excellent.

No one can run faster than a footy in motion and South utilise this skill with excellence. South are still the flag favourites and I’m tipping them again today –  South by six goals.

Central vs North

This one’s at Jubilee Oval. The Maggie’s are still showing good signs as they continue to chip the ball around and make opposition teams defend. It’s just some lapses of concentration during quarters which hurt them.

North were quite good against South last week but they also had those lapses in concentration which hurt them. Today’s game should be an excellent contest.

Without seeing the teams at the time of writing, Central may have a few quality ins while North’s quality may not be quite ready as yet. But North still have enough quality to get the job done and that’s why I’m leaning to the Dogs today.

But if Central can continue to chip away anything is possible. I just can’t see the Dogs dropping their guard today as they know the importance of getting their season kick started again. I’m going to go the Dogs by five goals today.

Enjoy the footy everyone.
