Tales of the cancellation

The Roald Dahl and the Imagination Seekers show in Broken Hill was cancelled this week due to low ticket sales.

The show was to be performed at the Civic Centre on Monday July, 18.

The Broken Hill City Council (BHCC) were advised of the production’s cancellation earlier this week, said a BHCC spokesperson.

Ticketholders are being contacted by BHCC staff who are processing refunds.

The quantity and timing of ticket sales vary from show to show depending on timing, the target audience and the nature of the show itself.

The Civic Centre staff usually schedule shows in one of two ways, they will organise to bring a show to the city or a promoter of a travelling show makes a booking for the venue and schedules Broken Hill as part of the tour.

In this instance, the promoter scheduled the show, which means they had the discretion to decide if the show went ahead, said the BHCC spokesperson.

The promoter was kept informed of ticket sales progress via daily reports by the BHCC Events Team, and the promoter decided not to go ahead with the production.

Roald Dahl and the Imagination Seekers promotional material stated, ‘All around the world Roald Dahl’s words are disappearing not only from books but children’s minds too!’

Unfortunately, the words of Roald Dahl have disappeared from the Broken Hill Civic Centre too.
