SA promising quick with a local connection

Spencer Johnson
by Peter Johnston

Promising Brisbane Heat and South Australian Shield left armed fast bowler, Spencer Johnson, has a genuine local connection and could well be on his way to bigger things.

Johnson came to the notice of South Australian selectors after some very good performances in the Adelaide District cricket competition for West Torrens and also caught the attention of Brisbane Heat Big Bash selectors.

Johnson played the majority of the Big Bash games for Brisbane and impressed with his seemingly effortless pace where he was regularly clocked in the low to mid 140kph. Equally as impressive were his good control and line and length.

Johnson is the son of Greg Johnson who played in a South Broken Hill Football Club premiership and then went on to play for West Adelaide in the SANFL.

Spencer is also the grandson of Harry and Pat Johnson who lived the majority of their life in South Broken Hill.

At 6’ 5” in height if Spencer continues to make the rapid progression he has made over the last two seasons he  looks to be a possible candidate to replace Mitch Starc in the Australian side when he calls curtains on his career.
