Fevola and Hosking to play in Broken Hill

Central Broken Hill Football Club will host a marquee game this Saturday featuring two special guest players.

The Magpies have enlisted Carlton legend Brendan Fevola and AFLW star Jess Hosking for its first event of this type.

The two guests will line up for the senior A grade men’s and women’s side against South Football Club at Memorial Oval.

Paegan Hall, the Auskick coordinator at Central FC, was happy it could be organised and said the Club couldn’t wait for the day.

“We haven’t had a marquee game before and we are really excited,” she said.

“The other clubs have had it so I went to the Club’s Board with the idea and they were happy to support it.”

The women’s match will kick off at 11:25am before the men’s game at 2:30pm.

Ms Hall said the Club has received positive feedback about the marquee event and hopes to see large crowds for the sole round three fixture this weekend.

“It gives all the clubs a chance to come to the game,” she said. “We are hoping we will get a really big turnout.

“Even people who don’t often come said they will attend the Club and they are looking forward to the game.”

Juniors have been selected to run out with both teams alongside Fevola and Hosking. Ms Hall expects both guest players to shine and add quality to both rosters.

“Great opportunity for them to play with someone at that level to learn from and play with in general,” she said.

“Jess is really good and fit so that will help us. Fev was a good forward and kicked a lot of goals in his career so hopefully he can do the same for the boys on Saturday.”

Senior men’s A grade coach, Greg Wellington, said it was “extremely exciting” to have an AFL great in his squad for Saturday’s clash.

“I’m looking forward to having the young blokes play with him,” he said. “Hopefully they’ll be able to learn from it and stick with us for the rest of the season.”

Coach Wellington expects a packed-out Memorial Oval to see the two stars showcase their talent.

He said there would be no special treatment for Fevola when delivering his instructions to the team.

“I will treat him like another player but good to have a weapon like that,” he said. “All the boys are pumped and expecting a big turnout at training.

“I’m sure South players are also looking forward to lining up against him.”

Central FC has fundraised for the past year and thanked the community members and businesses that have supported the cause.

“The whole community has been behind it,” Ms Hall said. “It takes the pressure off the Club. All the money we will raise will help the Club run smoother.”

Elders Broken Hill, Silver City Test and Tag, Red Earth Motel and Maari Ma threw their support behind the event.

The Club will be open from 6:30pm with full bar and kitchen facilities. There is $10 charge with kids under 15 free.

The Mother’s Day Raffle will be drawn on the night with tickets available at the Club or game.
