A word from the Royal Flying Doctors Service…
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is excited to announce that its Artist in Residence, Nick Swann, has completed his collection of paintings depicting Broken Hill and the RFDS. A short exhibition, titled Solid, will be open for public viewing next month.
Mr Swann has served as the Artist in Residence at the Broken Hill Wellbeing Place on Blende Street since February 2023. During this time, he has contributed to weekly community wellbeing guided painting classes.
He possesses a fascination with all things related to aviation and rural life. Invited to experience and observe the RFDS in action, Mr Swann has particularly noted the exceptional work carried out at the RFDS Wellbeing Place.
His paintings offer a first-hand glimpse into the city of Broken Hill and its surroundings, capturing the beauty of Australia. More importantly, they shine a light on the local community.
Mr Swann expressed gratitude towards the RFDS and the Wellbeing Place. “I love this place; it’s got a wonderful feel,” he explained. “There’s a lot of laughter, and everyone is very supportive.”
The week-long exhibition will kick off with an opening night at the Wellbeing Place on Friday, October 27, from 5:30pm. All are welcome, and drinks and nibbles will be provided.
The exhibition can be viewed on Saturday, 28 October, between 9am and 1pm From Monday, October 30, to Friday, November 3, the collection will be open daily between 12pm and 3pm.
Twenty per cent of the final takings from the sale of the displayed artwork will be donated to the RFDS Wellbeing Place.
