SciFiBri aims to light up science

If you want to see a bloke holding fire in his hands or are interested in the idea of Elephant’s Toothpaste, then Brian Haddy – stage name SciFiBri – could be your man.

Mr Haddy plans to bring an action-packed science fair to Broken Hill this coming year and he was in town this week to run through a few experiments – he calls them demonstrations – at the Barrier Truth offices.

Mr Haddy has been presenting Science Fairs around South Australia for the last 20 years and now plans to bring it to the Silver City.

A science fair is a mixture of spectacular science shows, scientific displays, and the main ingredient – lots of hands-on activities for the kids.

Mr Haddy says the fairs are aimed at primary school aged children and their families and they receive a huge response everywhere he goes.

“We are looking for a major sponsor so that we can offer a free fair so that there is no barrier to anyone attending,” he told us.

“Usually, we run two sessions on a Sunday 9am to 12:30pm and then 1pm to 4:30pm.

“I will bring a few presenters up from Adelaide, but we will also be tapping

into as much local talent as we can, having displays and local groups invited showing their stuff.

“We are hoping for that lightbulb moment when the 12-year-old says ‘aha’ that’s what I’m really interested in I want to do more of that,” Mr Haddy said.
