Nominations for this year’s ever-popular Eisteddfod close soon, with nominations due by this Friday, June 16.
Merrilyn Podnar, Publicity Officer of the Broken Hill Eisteddfod Society, tells us a committee member will be at the Silver Notes School of Music at 481 Beryl St, opposite the soccer complex, from 10am Friday to collect nominations.
EFTPOS will be available for those wishing to pay their nomination fee via card.
Schedules for the upcoming Eisteddfod – which will be held from August 17 to 22 at the Musicians Club – are still available from Broken Hill Music in Oxide St, and Broken Hill Library.
This year, Mrs Podnar urges locals to show their, “talent in piano, instrumental, such as guitars, brass instruments, percussion, or virtually any instrument, vocal, coral, and speech and drama” by nominating to perform in the Eisteddfod.
As part of the speech and drama category, verse speaking choirs are also included.
“We need to make sure we have enough entries to ensure the Eisteddfod not only runs successfully, but is seen as an event where performers can showcase their talents, and where the audience can watch a truly talented show,” Mrs Podnar told the Barrier Truth
She is hopeful the announcement of Jonathon Welch as this year’s adjudicator will draw locals to the Eisteddfod, as Mr Welch was the Choir Master for the ABC’s hugely popular production, the Choir of Hard Knocks, as well as being a tenor singer, choir conductor and vocal teacher.
For more information, Ms Podnar can be contacted on 8087 7633 or [email protected]
Now, let’s get those nominations in.
