New Bar, Old Charm

A brand-new bar with an entirely new vibe at the old Grand Hotel building on Argent Street.

Petrichor is the brainchild of Neil Pigot and his partner Dr Hannah Bertram, who are hoping to bring something different to the nightlife in Broken Hill.

“We are aiming for Petrichor to be a completely different option to anything else that is in town,” Mr Pigot told the Barrier Truth.

More than just a bar, Mr Pigot says Petrichor will be, “an extension of our living room. Relaxed, loungey, eclectic. A venue where you can enjoy your own space, engage in free-flowing conversation, sit, and read a book with a good glass of wine or a craft beer or even, a house made soft drink, and enjoy a range of artisan made foods.”

The pair will be looking to incorporate some artistic performances in the heritage courtyard of the Grand Hotel to add to the cultural mix here in the Silver City.

“The courtyard is surrounded by the old sample rooms of the Grand Hotel. So, we have this heritage courtyard where people can sit outdoors and enjoy a drink and some art as well.”

A mini music festival is planned shortly after the venue’s opening, offering patrons an immediate taste of Petrichor’s unique vibe. “We have a folk-slash-blues contemporary music festival in the works, featuring four nights of performances from both here and away,” revealed Mr Pigot.

Along with Mr Pigot and Dr Bertram, Chef Renay Schuster will play a pivotal role, who has been tasked with creating the Middle Eastern mezzee reimagined with native ingredients.

“Renay is sourcing the best produce available and creating great food inhouse with a focus on marrying indigenous ingredients with the ancient food culture of the Mediterranean.”

Petrichor is located at 313 Argent Street and will open early next month.
