New Banners give brief welcome

If you were quick and took a stroll down Argent or Patton Street this Friday, you might have noticed something a little different on a couple of Broken Hill’s main drags – a couple of big banners across the road.

But you’d have to be quick – we’re talking about the ‘welcome’ banners that very briefly adorned the Silver City’s most historic streets as part of a trial to test the weight of the new banners.

The banner says Welcome to Broken Hill, Australia’s first heritage listed city. Home of the Wilyakali people.

When in place permanently the banners will bring attention to the fact Broken Hill is Australia’s first heritage listed city.

Mayor Tom Kennedy is excited the banners are set to go up permanently.

“Other banners can be replaced for different events or functions happening in the city, but these will not be replaced very often. Perhaps every few years or so, but they will be a permanent fixture.”

The banners will soon be erected permanently on both streets – welcome to Broken Hill.
