McHappy Day 2023

Broken Hill McDonald's McHappy Day

Saturday November 18, marks the 32nd annual McHappy Day, a day of nationwide fundraising spearheaded by McDonald’s. The Broken Hill McDonald’s joins in this significant campaign, with a goal to raise five million dollars for a cause close to many hearts.

This day of giving is crucial in supporting seriously ill children and their families during their most challenging times. The funds raised contribute to various Ronald McDonald House Charities programs, including the Ronald McDonald House, the Ronald McDonald Learning Program, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, and the Ronald McDonald Family Retreats.

Over the last forty years, Ronald McDonald Houses have provided a home away from home for over four million nightly guests. This number continues to rise as the demand from families, especially those from regional areas like Broken Hill, grows. These families often find themselves without a place to stay while their child receives hospital care.

This year’s McHappy Day at Broken Hill’s McDonald’s promises to be a bustling hub of activity. The day’s events include a live broadcast by Hill FM from 9 am to 1 pm, a showcase of vintage cars by veteran car clubs, and appearances by various local emergency services including the SES, NSW Police, and Fire and Rescue New South Wales. Adding to the fun, there will be face painting for kids.

“I think because most families, unfortunately, in this town have had an experience, whether it be their family member or someone they know have had to use Ronald McDonald House,” Sarah Grace, Broken Hill McDonalds Licensee, told the Barrier Truth.

“We see some amazing generosity from families on McHappy Day all year round which is great. We hope to see them here on Saturday too,” Ms Grace continued.

If McDonald’s achieves its fundraising target, it will translate to over 33,000 days of essential support for vulnerable families when they need it most.

Residents are encouraged to visit McDonald’s this Saturday to participate in this charitable cause. By purchasing a Big Mac, a helping hand, a raffle ticket, or the newly introduced McDonald’s Lego set, you can make a difference in the lives of many families. Join in and support this worthy cause on McHappy Day.
