Local writer wins comp twice

The winner of a 100 word writing competition has been announced and Alex Rosenblum took out both categories, to win two $250 prizes.

The competition was run by the Charles Rasp Library and was sponsored by West Darling Arts and Under the Silver Tree Co-operative Bookshop. Representatives from all three organisations judged one category and the second category, Peoples’ Choice, was open to voting on the library’s Facebook page.

The competition’s theme was “Oh, what an animal!’ and could be in poetry or prose but entry was only open to residents in the West Darling Region.

For next year’s competition, Charles Rasp Library is expected to be able to collaborate with Wentworth Library again.

Oh, what an animal!

By Alex Rosenblum.

We met at the bar
The sky dark, lights orange,
reflected faces.
He says, “Come for lunch Monday”.
“Come lie with me in my sleep.”
Cowboy lines, lonely eyes.
“I’ve got to go. Come tomorrow”.
Your lips were cold.
Your body cold.
I walked in the night,
knee deep in heather.
Passing by a river, body sinking.
I watched from the bank as he sank.
Yellow dog appears.
She dove to the bottom to meet you.
Her golden body pulled him up.
Placed him on the bank.
Your body cold.
I lay with you in your sleep.
