Local celebs to celebrate World Pride with PERFECTLY PRISCILLA

By Jason Irvine

Broken Hill will be represented at next year’s Mardi Gras and World Pride celebrations in Sydney, with local celebrities – actor June Marie Bennett and drag sensation Amanda Screetly – heading to the Harbour City for what’s being claimed by its organisers as the biggest LGBTQIA+ festival to ever hit Australian shores.

The pair will be joining the cast of Philmah Bocks’ new drag show creation, PERFECTLY PRISCILLA, as part of the two-week long program at Sydney’s iconic Imperial Hotel – the site of the opening and closing scenes of the 1994

Australian road comedy, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in which Ms Bennett played the character of Shirl.

The show will pay homage to the original narrative of the film and feature a musical mash-up from the movie’s soundtrack and stage production. It promises to present “a high camp, non-stop production of your favourite Priscilla tracks and replica costumes from the iconic movie”.

The night of drag, disco and divas in the desert stars Philmah Brooks, Art Simone, Vonni, Polly Filla, Jemima Handful, Jojo Zaho, Freddie Merkin, Pashion Couture, Amanda Screetly and June Marie Bennett.

Mardi Gras runs from the Opening Fair Day on Sunday, February 19 until Sunday, February 26, before World Pride 2023 follows from Monday, February 27 to Sunday, March 5.

PERFECTLY PRISCILLA will be playing at Erskineville’s Imperial Hotel on February 24 and 25, 2023. Patrons wishing to attend the event can purchase tickets at
