A Broken Hill-based business is rejoicing after it helped its most notable client win a big race.

Discount Tyres played a part in assisting race car driver Toby Price take out first place in an off-road motorsport event earlier this month.

“It was a bit nerve-racking but it was a great week,” Shop owner Kerry Turley said.

Team Price won the Finke Desert Race (car category) against 150 other teams and recorded the fastest time in the event’s history.

The multi-terrain two-day race for bikes, cars and buggies goes through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community.

Other clients had strong finishes with Tyler Owen missing out on the podium spot finishing in the top five.

Mr Turley and his crew installed the Monster Seal product that eliminates the risk of getting punctured tyres.

“If we don’t have any issues, it takes us three to four minutes (to apply),” he said. “You have to make sure you get the right amount in each tyre.”

About 1.8 litres of the product is used for each racing tyre that range in size up to 40 inches.

A special pump is used to measure and apply the product ahead of use.

Discount Tyres supported 14 other teams with the Monster Seal product which it imports from the USA and supplies to other retailers nationwide.

The product has been popular locally and is used for many different purposes.

“We sell it to mums and dads,” Mr Turley said. “It can be used for anything that has a tyre and holds air.”

Mr Turley said he is keen to team up with Team Price as he looks forward to competing in the Dakar Rally next year.

Price is a two-time winner of the prestigious race in the bike category taking out the wins in 2016 and 2019.
