Heather makes a splash as she turns ninety-nine

Broken Hill resident Heather Merritt is up early every Tuesday and Thursday morning doing Aqua Aerobics at the Broken Hill Aquatic Centre. Nothing too surprising in that, you may say, but here’s the thing – Heather celebrated her 99th birthday on Tuesday.

This Thursday, at the Aquatic Centre, staff threw Heather a birthday party to commemorate the milestone birthday.

There was coffee, cakes, savoury snacks and balloons galore.

On top of that her family had travelled down from Adelaide.

Alan, Judith and David were all in attendance, along with her son-in-law, Jason.

Heather took some time out of her celebration tell the Barrier Truth about her day.

“It is lovely to spend it with my family who have come all the way down from Adelaide,” she said.

When we mentioned visiting her in a years’ time for her 100th, Heather shot back with, “you will need to make me a special 100 headdress if you do.”

From everyone here at the Barrier Truth, Heather we wish you a Happy Birthday.

And we will see you next year for your centenary, with headdress in hand.
