First Mayors Cup at South Broken Hill Golf

This Saturday, August 19, will see the very first Mayors Cup competition take place at South Broken Hill Golf Club.

Set to be a team event played under stableford rules, South Broken Hill Golf Club captain David Brennan is proud to have the opportunity to create a tournament like this in the Silver City.

“It is the first ever Mayor’s Cup. I got the idea from when I went down to Adelaide to play in the Lord Mayor’s Cup,” Mr Brennan told the Truth.

A brand-new trophy has been minted for the tournament, and on top of that all scores recorded on the day will go towards members scores for the season.

“Not only is the cup up for grabs, but our normal competition will be running as well,” Mr Brennan tells us.

“It’s a great honour. And these are the sorts of things, as the mayor, I just appreciate so much,” Broken Hill Mayor, Tom Kennedy told us.

He said he’s excited to take part in the tournament and has his eyes on winning and taking the trophy home.

“I’ve got to at least try,” Cllr Kennedy laughed.

Even if you aren’t keen on hitting the links, the club will be fully stocked for any spectators who want to head out there to watch.

“There’ll be a full bar in the club and the weather is set to be nice, so if you want to sit out in the sun and have a drink – all are welcome,” Mr Brennan added.

The Mayor’s Cup Is set to tee off at 10am on Saturday at the South Broken Hill Golf Club on Duff St,  South Broken Hill.
