Fire Report

Residents have been reaching out to the Barrier Truth asking about smoke seen to the southeast of the Hill over the weekend, so we got in touch with local fire services for an update.

NSW Rural Fire Service Far West District Manager, Inspector Brad Lennon, said the smoke noticed out towards Menindee was actually blowing in from Victorian bushfires.

“The wind direction and the currents had brought the smoke up to the north from bushfires happening in Victoria,” Mr Lennon told us.

On the other side of the Silver City, a car fire on a private property on Willangie Rd near Silverton was thought to have been started by an electrical fault.

“The car fire in Silverton was a private vehicle on a private property that somehow caught on fire,” said Inspector Lennon. “We determined it to have been accidental, and we suspect it was an electrical fault or something along those lines that caused the car to catch alight.”
