Desert Dash in Pooncarie

Pooncarie Desert Dash

There is a record number of entries for the Pooncarie Desert Dash this weekend.

75 cars with navigators and drivers from around Australia will descend on Pooncarie along with their support crews and crowds from Broken Hill and Sunraysia to watch the three day action.

The Desert Dash in Pooncarie is part of the BF Goodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) where drivers must go as fast as they can whilst negotiating the rugged, dusty or sometimes muddy terrain they encounter.

There are a number of different classes of competition with vehicles ranging from purpose built space framed open wheelers with engines up to 6000cc to modified 4WD vehicles.]

Except for the single seaters, all vehicles consist of a driver/navigator team.

The BF Goodrich series hosts six events around Australia, the first, The Cobb and Co Hotel St George 399 was in March, Pooncarie is the second then comes the Tatts Finke Desert Race in June, the Can Am Loveday 400 in South Australia in July, the Hindmarsh Shire Rainbow Desert Enduro in September and finally the Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race in October.

Teams to look out for include Josh Howells and Eric Hume who won the first event, a back to back victory for them, but they won’t have it all their way this weekend with the Shannon Rentsch team providing strong competition having been Off Road Champions nine times and winning the Finke Race six times.
