Christmas Pageant a big hit

The 2022 Broken Hill Christmas Pageant this weekend was a great success with a return to pre-Covid numbers.

Locals lined the streets to view the 31 floats in the street parade, this was an increase from last year’s 25.

Rachel Merton, Events Coordinator for Broken Hill City Council, said tthe council was really pleased with the response from the spectators and the participants.

“We have had great feedback from people, saying it was the best parade in a long time.

“A few thousand people were in Sturt Park and really enjoyed the live performances.

“Santa was very busy all night giving out bags of lollies and talking to the children.

“All the floats were really well done and there was a lot of effort and work went into them.”

Prizes awarded for the floats were:

  • Most Creative Community Group – Broken Hill Vintage and Veteran Car Club
  • Most Creative Business – Lawrence Engineering
  • Best School – Railwaytown Public School
  • Best Christmas Spirit – Silver City Swim Club
  • Grand Champion – Morgan Street Public School

Funding for the event was provided by the NSW Government Community Events Program.
