Chiro comes home

Cooper Murray is heading to work this morning for his third day at Far West Chiropractic, the newest addition to Broken Hill’s businesses.

Dr Murray, educated at RMIT, opened his new clinic at 119 Oxide Street on Monday, following a five-week stint this year as a locum chiropractor in Broken Hill.

Originally from Broken Hill, Dr Murray is a familiar face in local sporting circles, participating in soccer, AFL, cricket, and more.

“I’ve always wanted to help people and work within health care … While I was studying, I really fell in love with chiro. I was happy I chose to do this and probably will for the rest of my life,” he reminisced.

His education earned him a Bachelor of Health Science and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic) as part of a five-year double degree.

In his leisure time, Dr Murray worked as a personal trainer in a Melbourne gym. He also worked as a sports trainer at a footy club, applying his studies along the way.

After completing his degree, Dr Murray continued to work as a chiropractor in Melbourne and later as a locum in Port Macquarie and even in New Zealand. However, he confessed, “I wanted to come back to Broken Hill.”

Finding no suitable employment as a chiropractor in Broken Hill, he pondered the viability of opening his own practice.

“Ultimately, I decided that I liked treating people here, and I can do a good job of that. Broken Hill is my home, and I want to be here for a long time,” he explained.

Now firmly back in Broken Hill, Dr Murray was asked if he plans to return to sports fields in the future.

Recalling an incident, he now finds humorous, he said, “When I started doing locum work here, I played my first game of footy and broke my ankle.”

Having completed the rest of his locum in a moon boot, he stated, “sport is definitely out.”

Nevertheless, he expressed a desire to be involved professionally with his former sports teams, something he can readily do through his new business.

Far West Chiropractic operates from 8 am to 12 pm and then 2 pm to 6 pm on weekdays, and 8 am to 10:30 am on Saturdays. Bookings can be made by calling 8088 3229 or via email at [email protected].
